Wedding Covers Ever since I moved away from Minnesota, I wanted to start working on a covers record. My original intent was taking time off to take apart songs I love and see how they tick. I was going to try reworking songs completely just to see how they could sound. When I actually began arranging and recording, however, I realized that I didn't have enough musical equipment on hand to "play around" with ideas the way I wanted. At the same time, the idea was brought up to make an album of cover songs for my wedding. And so the result was a romantic themed collection of minimalist covers. Two songs were instrumental pieces written for the ceremony and the others were just songs I happen to love. The only odd-song-out is "(What We Found) In the Dirt", which was released on last year's Jose Canseco EP. On occassion I used a piano, but for the most part all I had were two guitars, a melodica and a tambourine. Most of the arrangements ended up being done as I recorded and recordings were typically finished in an afternoon. 8-9-06 I added one song to this list of free downloads. I wrote and recorded a processional for the wedding of two of my close friends. The song is called Down the Road. 2-26-07 I originally had recorded a cover of Barry White's Never, Never Gonna Give You Up for this project and originally didn't include it because I thought that some of the elderly family members who would get the disc at the wedding might raise their eyebrows too high. But let's face it, they didn't even listen to it, I'm sure. Anyway, I enjoy this version because it's so slow and sparse. I'm offering up the album for free, so pass them along and enjoy. 1.
